Quickshift for a type 2 gearbox. Does a type e one work?
Got a standard type 2 gearbox behind my crossflow in my 1600 sport mk2 escort.
It’s well worn in, like stirring porridge. Changed the nylon collar on the selector fork and it’s made engaging gears easier, but it still flaps about like a tit in the breeze.
the question i have is does a type e 4 speed quickshift gearstick like what was in four speed capris and some rs2000s fit a type 2 gearbox. I know they are both screw in, but I don’t know if they are similar enough to get away with using one for a quickshift in a type 2. I’ve read somewhere it works, but I don’t want to spring 50 notes on a maybe.
anyone got the answer?
And if the answer is “no, of course not you daft spoon”
then does anyone know of a quickshift or rebuild kit for the type 2 stick.

They’re both approximately 41mm thread so I’ll get one and see what happens. Will let folk know if they fit. I’ve found another stick with a knackered thread so should be able to make a less sloppy one from two if this rose jointed type e one doesn’t do the trick.

Ok, so a standard type 2 gearbox has a two piece tailhousing that takes the type e quickshift fine.
the 1600 sport has a one piece alloy tailhousing and the selector rails lie lower in the gearbox so the gearstick is an inch longer down to the fork to accommodate this.
so a type e rose jointed stick fits a standard type 2 gearbox but not a 1600 sport type 2 gearbox.
Now you all know. Though folk are all m75 or Mazda boxes or t9 these days so this information isn’t that exciting.
Going to modify the stick to suit.
cheers for the help
