Help please non start Essex v6


weak to no spark car don’t even fart when use a squirt of the good stuff into carb


Coil resistance across positive and king lead terminals, and earth / king terminal seems ok


Have tried another coil and king lead


Ignition on I get 12v on earth and live terminals on coil ( I think that’s normal as switches on cranking yes?


I have tried putting a new live to coil + terminal from battery


I have tried a jump lead to earth engine and chassis


I have loosened dizzy bolt and rotated dizzy back and forth a tad to see if it’s earth is iffy


I have tried another electronic ignition unit in dizzy


I remove earth from coil place king lead by a turret bolt and touch a earth wire from battery to coil negative no spark!!
This is on 3 different coils! (Yes ignition was on)


I don’t know what to do next apart from find a old school mechanic


Any advice ?

Stab in the dark here I'm afraid but could it be anything to do with the points?

not sure what to advise, but without a condensor connected to the circuit you wont get a spark by simply earthing the coil!

you might if you lucky, but as i said you need a condenser in the circuit

Graham - as he said, its electronic so no points / condenser.
Unless you are working with a known good Ignition ecu ie. it comes off a working running engine its a good chance its goosed.

my point was you cant check a coil by simply earthing it!

I thought you could, I know you put multi meter across it

That’s google for you I was to remove earth and give it a earth striking it across to watch king lead spark

if your lucky you will get a spark, but thats by no means certain!
