type 9 leeking from speedo drive

i bought my type 9 last year secondhand. it is a reconditioned box with the receipt etc from road and race transmissions. i bought from a bloke who took it out of his mk1 rs2000 to put it back to standard.
anyway, i've had it 18 months and as my mk1 is nearing it's mot i filled the gearbox up with oil. The problem is oil started dripping from the speedo drive.

    Any suggestions??
I don't think putting the speedo cable in there will stop the oil leak

    Where does that seal fit?
Does it go in from the other end of the speedo drive through here?

Yes, you will have to pull that plug out, then pull the speedo drive. It should be obvious where the seal goes then!

It's a good idea to get a new plug as well as they often distort badly during removal.

Iit was a while ago but i seem to remember taking that plug out and there was no speedo drive inside. That means i need one of those as well. I believe there are many types of T9 box but the paperework states mine is a Sierra box.

I'll start looking for the parts now then. Cheers guys

got all the parts from Burton. Speedo drive, oil seal, plug and a circlip for the speedo cable. Fitted in about 20 minutes and now the gearbox doesn't leak and the speedo works. Result!!

I realise this is an old thread but can the oil seal be fitted with the box in situ or does it need to come out

Also can the seal just be picked out and new one popped in place from the front or does the who core plug and speedo drive need to be removed
