weird one...compatible rear view mirror options

Hi All,

My car (1972 MK1) has suffered some serious sun/UV damage over the years (It was a daily driver until 2017).

My rear view mirror is crumbling into dust. I have tried to save it with body filler and care but no. Its still turning to dust internally now.

Does anyone know another make/model of car with the same ball socket size that fits the standard roof mounted arm?

I only ask as every mk1/mk2 mirror i have seen is either similarly affected or the glass is de-laminating.

Someone must have done this? What others options do i have? I bought a "good" one (original) from ebay and it was just as shagged as my old one...

Buy a universal one and make a new bracket?

I've got a used but good one from a Escort mk2 - no powdery plastic (bit faded) and good glass ?
