    Pinto help.

My 1600 pinto is in need of valve seals doing, no biggy, but it's still a loaded head. the cost of having inserts fitted is pretty high. My old man said he fitted a 2.0 head and cam to a 1600 back in the day with decent results. I have looked around the net and this seems to be the case. Anyway, I have got hold of an injection head to stick on, but it has come with a bp285 cam in it. It's not what I'd choose, but will it work on a 16 bottom end?
    currently in the fleet, mk4 3i cabby, orion 1600e turbo, 2wrd stage 3 saph, rs1800 mk5 van, mk6 ghia X, mk6 Si, mondeo zetec S gone, 1380 mini, Rover 600Ti breaking, two S13 200sx's. GMC S15 truck, and a retro twincam Tipo..

a std 2.0 cam will work well in a 1600,

a 2.0 head on a 1600 is a bad idea it will give low compression, back in the old days the hot mod was to fit a 1600 to a 2000 to give high compression

No, it ran the same 2 Ltr cam, same 2 Ltr 32/36 DGAV carb (re jet), 4-2-1 exhaust manifold but exact the same head as the 75 Bhp 1600 cc version, not 2 Ltr head.

no, it was still a 1600 head, it had 2.0 cam and carb,

put a 2000 head on a 1.6 and your cr will be down to 7.5:1

you would have to skim it to near death, thats just an expensive waste of an injection head

looks like I'll hang on to it and build up a bottom end then.

We all know what he meant!

Why not spend the money having your 1600 head repaired, they are rare items now and will always command decent money if it's the correct one.

    Re: Pinto help.

bit of a change of plans. a mate of my old man has done me a deal on 2litre lump with an injection head that he built up a few years ago with new bearings, rings and what have you. Its sat for a couple of years as a spare not used and he took my head and cam against it.
I now need to decide on a suitable cam for it before I stick it in. will be running the 32/36 and the 1600 clutch flywheel and box so I cant go lairy.
Any advice as to cam choice?
