    A smaller brake booster?

Case: Zetec in Cortina Mk1. Was gonna use the booster from the 1998 Escort the engine came out of, but it is so friggin large @ 10" (it fits, but limits available space for exhaust manifold) so can anyone give any tips where to look for a smaller unit? Ka, Fiesta, Corsa...? I need it to be an Ate brand to fit the 72x72mm mounting bracket i have already installed. And yes, I need to have a booster - legal requirement.
The auto salvage yard I normally would have visited just went out of business and the more "modern" ones don't really let you wander around unsupervised...

Trawl ebay for pictures of used units.

I changed my Granada one for a Subaru servo and master cylinder. It was dead easy to adapt to the bracket and make up a new link rod.
Probably bigger than what you need though.

I'm sure some smaller cars out there do have very compact units.

I know, I'm just trying to save where possible. Which of course means that the project does not always advance at desired speed

That's exactly what I've been up to for the last few days... And there are candidates, but it's not always very easy to judge size from pics alone. The Granny servo is quite small though, is it not?

I know the feeling, im fitting a Zetec in a MK1 Escort but without a servo, you defintiely dont want to oversize a servo, gives a horrible brake feel.

Not huge diameter, but still bulky. The Subaru was smaller in every respect hence I used it.

As for judging size....referencing to either the 2 bolts on front or master cylinder itself, or reservoir will still give a good indication of size.

Or new remote units, or even some new units intended for say old MG's etc...arent that expensive really.

eg, compared to the reservoir, this looks pretty small.

Nissan Micra K10 (1980's) is the "go to" here in Sweden for small boosters. Unfortunately it is not a bolt on replacement for the Ford boosters, but can be adopted. I used one in my Capri before I went to a bias box.
