You have to jailbreak the iPhone before you can unlock it to any network. I have done both to mine for about 6 months now. If you have the very latest update from iTunes, then it can't be jailbroken as Cydia are still working on that update. Mine is )OS 4.0.2 and the newest update from iTunes is 4.2 So if you have 4.2, then it can't be done!
Search for Cydia on Youtube or jailbreaking the iPhone!
It isn't too difficult, but things can go wrong if you don't follow the instructions carefully!!
