    Panhard Rod Tower Location

Hi guys, potching about with the axle on the escort, offered up the panhard rod tower but unsure if welding the tower on at an angle is correct? If I mount it dead square on the car there is too much tension on the rubber bush.

I think im correct in the location, what you lot think?

Tower should be mounted square, the towers are notoriously bad fittign and often take a bit of fab work to fit correctly, including additional streghtening around the boot floor, as for tension on the bush - adjust the rose joint so the bush isnt pulled or pushed.

I thought it should be mounted square to the car, but the bush in the tower will take some serious binding..

Adjust the length of the rod at the rose joint then, if its too short then you need to look at where the axle bracket is welded on

Looking at picture no1 will the panard tower move any further forwards towards the rear of the axle? Some towers had an adjustable tube that would swivel round and that would have solved your problem. Don't forget to put some extra bracing in the boot to the chassis otherwise you'll get the floor splitting.

Thats what mine has, a sliding tube for adjustment rather than a series of holes, got it from West Wales Rally Spares.

No adjustment, its just fixed and I can move it closer to the axle yes.

If it doesnt go at an angle its a stupid design purely because if its straight it will kill the bush.

Ill get a photo of it straight tomorrow.

Not sure I follow your reasoning? The bush should be square to the tower mounting holes and pivot vertically up & down. Bar should be parallel to ground
with car on ground. Can't see from above what would 'kill the bush' - if bar was angled into or away from axle maybe?

He means the bush is twisted in the horizontal plane as the bar is angle in towards the axle bracket, which yeah isnt great but id just try and move the tower as close towards the front of the car as possible.

Moved it over and tacked it in place, what do you guys think on its location now? Also seems it sits exactly where the previous builder run a bar front chassis leg to chassis leg to add strength, so makes sense
