MK1 Escort Voltage Regulator - 6 Dial Dash
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick question, my temperature sensor and fuel gauge are not working and i suspect the voltage regulator has gone. However, I have 12v between each side of the regulator and earth.
I have had the clocks to pieces and the gauges look fine, confirmed with continuity across them.
Is this normal / broken?
Many thanks,
Jamie

The voltage regulator to the gauges is a very simple thing. It regulates the battery voltage/generator output voltage to approximately 9 volts. The regulator is adjustable. On the terminals side can be seen an inverted “straight screw driver” ended brass screw locked into place by glue. A pair of pliers can be used to turn this screw to adjust its’ output voltage; which is found, when the regulator is powered, on the female terminal.
I would guess that if the voltage recorded stays at battery/generator output in spite of turning the adjusting screw then the regulator is unserviceable.
Best of luck.

Probably too late but the 6 dial regulator is 5v, not the normal Smiths 10v.

Thank you for the advice! I changed the regulator and solved the issue. Fuel sender was also FUBAR.
Cheers
