Camshaft Sensor Position Gap Between Sensor and Lobe
Hi guys im having an issue at the moment with Camshaft Timing error faults displayed in the ECU
Its a brand new sensor. I measured the gap between the sensor and the cam lobe and it's reading 2.5mm which seems large. Does anyone know what the gap space should be please.?
I wondering maybe if the powder coating n the Custom cover is too thick.
Many thanks in advance

I should have mentioned guys it's a brand new engine setup which has not run before.

The Ford Focus and Mazda sensors seem to be the same

You've probably already thought of this, but can you refit and measure from the original plastic cam cover if you have it?

Thank you but I no longer have that cover to test.
I'm thinking it shouldn't be anymore than 2mm the same As the crank sensor

Re: Camshaft Sensor Position Gap Between Sensor and Lobe
Query - is it a two or three wire sensor? The difference is former is magnetic and are fussy about gaps, latter is a Hall effect device which are quite tolerant in gap distance - one I installed in my bike is about 3mm gap. If it is a two wire then I would say gap should be sub 2mm - maybe even 1mm!

Thank you. Yes its a 2 wire sensor . I have reduced the gap to1mm

I agree that magnetic VR sensors need a small gap, similar to the crank position sensor
