Location of brackets on rear axle - 4 link

    Hi
My escort was 'professionally' 4 linked several years ago and i've got it all apart to do some refurb work. Just spotted that the diamond bracket that welds to the rear axle tube for the 4 link bars dint look quite symmetrical - getting the tape measure out shows they are way out - left hand bracket 8 inches from axle tube end, right bracket over 8 1/2 inches. What should they be? (other than the f***** same)
    Thanks

In geometry terms, it makes no great difference except to a sense of symmetry! With 4 link bars, length is the critical bit - it determines axle parallelism, if the bars were different length side to side it would be more of an issue!

If your car has the Atlas axle fitted the centre of the 4 link bracket to where the axle tube goes into the pigs head casting is 9 inches. As Katana says that measurement is n't too critical as it's only locating your axle. Are the bars on both sides positioned in the centre of your 4 link boxes?

I would say that as long as the bars run parallel (front to back) and are central to the 4-link boxes, this is what would dictate where bracket sits in relation to the axle.

i would agree half inch difference on the axle will have no effect
