Mk1 Escort revcounter is using a current-loop; search the forum it has been explained several times.

I suspect you are connecting the tach directly to the coil? It shouldn't be. . . . . it should have a wire from the tach that is wound / looped around the coil lead (?) and back to the tach. It works like a strobe light using inductive technology.

    Thanks I’ll look at this
I’ve just connected back exactly same way as when the YB was fitted
This is what I can’t understand as it does pass through the loop on the rear
It was done by an electrician initially but I suspect the feed could be from (+) side of coil

4FPY-I - Ford OHC (Pinto) - non vac - with Ignitor
This is the dizzy I have fitted

When you say looped around the coil lead do you mean the coil (+) or coil (-)
    Cheers

The tacho has a wire-loop (normally white wire); the wire from ignitionkey to Coil+ should pass through that loop.

Rev counter doesn't like the way the coilcurrent is regulated by the Aldon electronics.

we see that a lot with Rover P5 rev counters, they work same way as mk1 escort ones, usually converting them to electronic ignition means they dont work afterwards and we have to send them away to be modified

Ok thanks so if I send it away to convert to RVC can I connect as I’m doing at the moment
The electrician has picked up from what I can see both feeds from the coil

Rev counter won’t work with Aldon dizzy

I had mine converted by speedy cables works fine connected to my megasquirt. Although it did read double but a resistor sorted that out.
