Anything can be done subject to time, inventiveness and money. Wouldn't it be easier to just replace the whole / both half shafts?

    Replacing the halfshafts is costly.

Taunus 17M is basically a 50" Atlas with 5 stud.

If I can convert it would be plug n play

In that case then subject to who does the work is the cost aspect. The method would be knock the studs out, plug weld up all of the holes and dress back flat. Mount in a chuck on a rotary table and mount on cross slide of a lathe. Centre the half shaft on lathe spindle, adjust cross slide for 100PCD, drill 1st stud hole (sized for press fit) with drill in lathe chuck. rotate rotary table 90 degrees, repeat drilling x3, de-mount and press in the 4 studs - repeat for other shaft. Finding a machine shop willing to do it is another thing. Of course the setting out of the holes can be done other ways and the holes could be done 'free hand' - how good are your engineering skills?

A lot of modern production cars have gone back to five studs. Unless you have a stack of 4 stud wheels you are wanting to use I would stick with 5 studs unless your choice of wheels is limiting you.

You can buy hubcentric wheel spacers to covert to any PCD / stud pattern you like.

Doing it "free hand" the probability of something going wrong is like 99%. loooool

It was on a Volvo axle, but the principle would be very similar. Chris, changed my half shafts from 5x108 to 4x108. This meant he could keep one hole where it was and drilled 3 more holes and fitted studs to the other 3. There was no need to weld up the 4 old holes in this particular case.
