    MK2 Rescue

Picked the worst day of the year to rescue this old Escort. It’s a GL, 2litre 4 speed shell. It is the original paint and has black bumpers all round. Complete original interior with tacho cluster. Rust in the usual spots but not the worst I’ve ever worked on. Will make a good rally car shell once we fix it up.

    Re: MK2 Rescue

Started stripping out the interior and all the other parts to assess what we need for the restoration. Floors aren’t too bad, rear quarters rotted, drivers sill, front panels need replacing. Was just discussing with the missus about what to restore it as. She was thinking of just redoing it as a road car in original trim as we have nearly everything there to do it. I was going more along the lines of a tarmac car for the targa rallies near us. We have a built n/a yb, a stock type 9 and hilux lsd disc arse end.
Does the world need another Mk2 rally car that just sits mainly in the shed only coming out a few times a year? Or do we build something we can get a lot more everyday use? I think from an investment point of view, a road car would be better bang for your buck? What are most peoples thoughts on the matter?
    Cheers

Yeah, that’s more along the lines I was thinking. Just a club car really, quick with 4 discs, a few suspension mods. Just don’t want to be driving round in a barred out, race seats and harness rocket like the old days. It just seems a bit of a waste to chuck out all the original interior. Maybe I’m just getting soft in my old age!
