    oil pickup modification

I have a decision to make on my 2.3 duratec.
Being the 2.3 with VVT originally it has the high capacity oil pump, the engine has only done around 65,000 miles.
I have a brand new oil pump from a 2.0 which is not high capacity, and cant decide on which to use.

The 2.0 pump will allow the ford ranger oil pickup pipe to bolt straight up but the 2.3 pump has a slightly different angle for the pickup so the pipe would need modifying.

Can i cut and weld the oil pickup pipe, is there a reason they are brazed instead?

Two reasons firstly braze flows like solder so your less likely to have a pin hole in the joint. Secondly it’s a more gentle method of joining its less likely to crack through stress or vibration
