Another mk2 Escort Build
Looks like there are few mk2 Escort builds at the moment so may as well add mine too.
I started looking for a mk1 Escort a couple of months ago but found the only ones in budget were more rust than metal. I wasn't really interested in the mk2 that much but had a look on eBay and there was an amazing early 76 car not too far from me. I went to see the car on the Thursday night and was having it delivered on the Saturday.
I don't know much about the car as the guy I bought it from had it for 6 months, planning to restore it himself but then came across a RS2000 he couldn't pass up so this car had to go. He believes the original owner to be the police though as it has a zip in the middle of the headlining and the police baby blue colour on the inside of the passenger door.
My original plan was to drop a VVT Mazda MX-5 engine and gearbox in it as I have the same engine in a Westfield kit car so it would be nice for them to share parts. A quick engine test fit this past weekend put that idea to bed as I would either need to modify the sump or the cross member for the engine to sit an inch or so lower.
So moving to plan B, which is the plan my friends said to do from the beginning, is to keep it original and drop a Pinto in it. I've been reading the threads on the RX-8 gearbox adapters so hoping I can mate a 2.0l Pinto to one of the 5 speed MX-5 gearboxes I already have.
The car will be used mainly as a road car and maybe road based time trials with potential rallying later on.

My plan is to make it look like the 1979 mk2 Escort rally car
