If I was in Aus I would be putting the RX7 box in and getting a bellhousing from Roger Carroll in Adelaide, much better option as you don't have to cant the gearbox 10 degree's

Thanks for the link Bobuy it is hard to find support within Australia, If it's not a V8 they cant help, it would probly be easyer to brop a V8.
As im still in the planing stage this is the help i need.

I was going to make up my own engine mounts and try to offset the motor, this gives a better option.

I was reading your thead last night (all of it) you are using a mx5 box on yours?
Or are you using a Mazda engine too? Or is it just the new type that fit 2005 on?

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between the rx7 6speed and the mx5/miata 6speed besides obviously the bellhousing?

Sorry, missed this post, I will measure when i get back to Dubai in a couple of days.

No idea, but was told the internals are similar. Big difference is that you would not need to mount the RX7 box at an angle, which you do have to do for the MX5 box

    Re: MX5 Gearbox

Sorry I'm a bit late on this thread: I have just modified my bell housing pattern by scalloping it at the back to fit down a Birkin tunnel (178mm wide) and flattening off the bottom to same depth as the old Rocket bell housing for maximum ground clearance.
This is the housing that takes the FC RX7 Turbo 5 speed box (with the engine and gear-lever upright)
I'm just getting some cast this Monday (23 January 2012) as it happens, so if anyone is interested, give me a call on 0408 804 795

Just want to check I understand, are you saying that the 1.6 duratec has a different bell housing bolt pattern than all the other duratec?

yes, different engine. 1.8, 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 Duratec's all share the same bolt pattern
