If somebody wanted to test a new Pinto cylinder head design but wanted to make a single cylinder test first, do you think it would be possible to use a regular block/crank with only 1 piston/rod? Obviously the other 3 cylinders would need to be sealed such that oil and water can still flow where it needs to (10mm aluminium plate).
I have no idea what loads this may place on the crank. My thoughts are that it would be fine. An alternative might be to use all pistons/rods to help keep the crank balanced.
Sounds stupid but I'm not exactly able to cast a bespoke single cylinder Pinto block at home!
