double width antiroll bar brackets?
Hi all. Bought a bolt on double width kit for my mk1 escort as its still running on standard compression struts. Ive just offered them up and im gonna have to modify them to fit?......and the captive nut in the chassis which holds the bumper bracket in place will have to be drilled right through to bolt the kit in place.
has anyone else fitted these kits and had any problems?
Thanks

Re: double width antiroll bar brackets?
Hi all, Right finally fitted my Anti roll bar and double width kit and for some strange reason my off side front wheel seems to be pushed back 10mm further than the near side? Im using the original holes in the chassis for the arb clamps and they look like the are parralell, both lower arms have been poly bushed, arb washers (one each side) have been fitted dished out and the arb castle nuts have been tighened up an equal amount. Looking at the front end it looks like both wheels are being pushed back in the arches? one more than the other. Need to try and get this addressed as im supposed to be doing.....well am doing Bedford gt circuit on the 28th.
was just wondering if ive fitted something wrong or if there is a way of fitting the whole thing diferently i dont know about.......or if ive got a cut n shut!
any ideas greatfully recieved, or if someone have some dimensions of where the chassis bumper mounting holes should be i would be very greatfull.......incase they have been repaired in the past.
Thanks

Re: double width antiroll bar brackets?
if you get the wrong combination of roll bar and roll bar brackets you can get a situation where the wheels will be pushed further back, as for the difference from side to side id do a lot of measuring from point to point on your chassis, could be bent! the arb castle nuts should be done up all the way, as far as they will go.

Re: double width antiroll bar brackets?
Did you fit a: 'bolt on double width anti dive kit' ?
If so this needs the Twin Cam anti roll bar fitted too, as an anti dive kit will have the effect of pushing the outer TCA position back.
Someone with a bit more knowledge discussing it here:

Re: double width antiroll bar brackets?
Thanks for your suggestions,
I bought a twincam arb with the double width brackets to suit from gsescorts, no anti dive.
I will double check the castle nuts Monday. I measured the distance from the edge of the arb bracket and the cross member today and they are the same so should be ok? It may be the wing out of place as at some point Steve Wonder welded them on.
I will check the measurment between front and rear hubs Monday aswell.
My concern was that because it is an early 68 model and it originally had stanfard compression struts the measurments may be different to a later model with a standard arb.
Thanks again

Doesanyone else have any knowledge of this ? I've just bought twin cam roll bar and mounts but I too have a 68 shell and the holes aren't there ,

Re: double width antiroll bar brackets?
Most people with anti roll bars want to go the other way and fit compression struts as they tighten the front steering up by not letting the geometry move. Why not fit a Gartrac style anti roll bar and links. The front of the chassis would still need drilling and tubes fitting for the brackets.

Re: double width antiroll bar brackets?
Make sure the crossmember is square across the chassis too. It could have a bit of movement forward or backwards on the mountings. Measure it diagonally against something on the chassis.
