Help fitting STD c20xe dispac in my mk2 escort.

Has any one fitted a STD injection c20xe in a mk2 escort. I want to fit it for the mean time with the STD inlet basically because of cost as my funds are tied up for painting the car. In have a chasis mount kit and 2nd hand Tony law exhaust manifold and system. Also have a up right bell house from yukspeed for my type 9 box. Have offered the engine into the engine bay and marked up the bulk head for cutting and offsetting to allow clearance for the cam sensor, just getting the usual doubts before I do any thing major. Any help would be greatfully received.

Just finished my conversion and i had to put big tunnel in ! Had already a biggish tunnel but was too tight. I used GP4 mount on the gearbox and big flat bar across the floor sill with 2 bolts either side to hold T9 box up . Worked well as i could put spacers in then to finalise the height postion of T9. Also dead easy to get it in and out . Afer last weeks heroics im glad i had big tunnel and that gearbox bracket ! Putting the tunnel makes life easier when you want to take engine in and out a few times ! I just managed to kept the heater in but after the rally did on sat night i think will go heated screen. I had to mod the back of tunnel too as prop was catching as the tail of t9 box is quite high when fitted to xe. I didnt use the cam sensor at back of head but i took cover off and blanked it off. I used a aftermarket ecu which got rid of few sensors then. I used the standard manifold and slighlty modded efi box (using blow torch to melt it into shape !) Never done it before and got 99% of my info from this forum ! Did have quite tidy pinto in it before but this much better in many areas. Pinto sounded nicer though !

i have mine running completely standard, have a look in restorations pages, 4door xe , as baltikabear said ive kept my heater but i had to move it back a bit and its no good really so ill be getting heated screen aswel , i had to modify my sfi box a little bit, and i think you should get a big tunnel, as above if you need the engine out in future it makes life much easier,

have a look at my page and go from there, but its worth it, mine was a quick job, dont do that, do it tidy and do it once, after sat night mines going to be stripped down and start again

Thanks for the help. The shell already had a big tunnel which is handy. I've cut out the bulk head and got a 2mm thick plate cut, folded and tacked up and the engine and box sits in great. like u say the heater should still fit in. Just need a sump and I can get the chasis mounts sorted. Well chuffed!

Cool Re: Help fitting STD c20xe dispac in my mk2 escort.

Here's a pic still needs the heater bowl sorting and then fully welding but will do that when it's back up on the spit.
What do you do for fuel lines? I had thought about getting a hydraulic hose company to make them up do you have any ideas I could consider?

Had a look at your post azz259 looks great fun road rallying and your building a weapon with all the right bits that gets some proper hammer, love it!

ha ha thanks mate, im trying to build a car on a budget, well or should i say im just getting the parts as i can afford them lol no such thing as a cheap mk2 , to do it properly you should get a fuel hose with no joints in it but it will cost you !!, mine has the standard rubber pipes coming out the inlet maniflod ( about a foot long ) the i ran 2 copper pipes inside the car to the pump in the boot, ive only used jubilee clips to join them (2 on each joint) i havnt had any problems, keep the pics coming

arrrrgggh! why did you cut the bulkhead? theres no need to chop it at all, ive converted loads of these to grp4 spec and never once had to chop anything!

Re: Help fitting STD c20xe dispac in my mk2 escort.

Bit late! The engine is fitted with a standard ecu and wouldn't go in with a Tony law manifold any further forward and higher up also the sump wouldn't clear the cross member been any further forward. Could always add a 3 piece bulk head plates in late if I change the spec to carbs and ecu. Thanks for your concern

No i never extended the prop, i used a std. crossmember with the engine mounts cut off and the racks mounts lowered, i did a bit of stengthening to it, i used chassis mounts and an Ashley system. Once i removed the distributor and modified the cam i plugged the dizzy drive and mounted the engine about 10mm from the bulkhead, before i welded the mounts on i fitted the g/box and offered the engine and box up to line it all up.
I also tig welded some stainless pipe for the 180deg bend from waterpump to bottom radiator pipe.
DTA ignition 45's, QED420 cams and some light head porting and it made 206hp....4.6 diff and a Tran-x type9.

Pretty much where I got to, either move the steering rack or chop up the bulkhead. Mine is an old four door so not that fussed about cutting some space, very similar spec engine to mine also. Hope I get a result close to that.....

just a note from your first post, the std efi set up is fitted at 7 degree, you have mounted the engine at zero to the gearbox, what sump do you have on the engine?

the manifold was part of the engine package when it was done by JRE in saltash, but i believe they are about £650, mine is mated to an ashley 2.5 system which slotted inside the manifold
