    X Flow 1600 Oil Separator

    Hi All
I could do with some guidance please
I recently bought a MK1 which turned out to be a South African 1600
It was a non runner due to the manifold and the carb not being fitted
I have managed to cobble together the manifold and carb and today got it running (partially)
I haven't been able to connect accelerator cable as the connection is on the other side for this carb and it has auto choke which looks inoperable.
I'm struggling to keep it running and operating the choke flaps by hand
I will replace both manifold and carb once I have confidence to go forward with this engine and spend some money

My question is about the oil separator
I don't have one fitted and I have no vent for the engine. No vented oil cap
The only connection I have with the manifold is the vacuum for the servo
The port hole for the separator has a steel bung in it
Do I need to fit an oil separator
I assume that there wasn't one fitted because SA has different laws on emissions
Could the absence of this also be the cause of me struggling to keep her running
Does the engine need ventilation to keep running

    Thanks in advance

if the engine cant breath it will leak oil like a sieve, but it will run.

    Hi Graham
    Thanks
Would you recommend that I install an Oil Separator
Easy enough to do whilst it’s off the road
I assume I am ok to just remove the core plug and install the separator

    Cheers

Yes, then run a pipe from oil separator to a catch tank
