    Xflow 5 speed pressure plate

    Hi all,
    Getting the bits together for my Mk2 Ghia auto to type 9 conversion. I have a xflow flywheel now and have bought a
    Borg & beck clutch kit from an early sierra 190mm with 23 splines. The guy I got the flywheel off also gave me a pressure plate off a 1600 xflow Cortina. Do I use the Cortina pressure plate or the one in the kit that is for a sierra? I'll try and post a pic soon!

    It could simply come down to which one physically fits with what room you have - you may find one is deeper than the other and won't fit : you don't want the gearbox nose (the clutch bearing carrier spigot) touching the fingers of the clutch.
    Otherwise I would expect a 1600 xflow clutch and a 1600 pinto clutch will be rated similarly so the choice is yours. I would use the best brand and condition one if you end up having the choice. Borg and Beck is decent quality.

    I think I'll measure the tops of the fingers when fitted to the flywheel and use the one with the lowest height which should give more room for the release bearing. If it's very similar then the Borg and beck can go on!

    Just counted the ring gear teeth on my donor pre engaged flywheel and it adds up to 110. Will my auto starter be ok with this?

    110 teeth is not a pre-engaged type. Only 132 or 135 is. Pre-engaged ring gear teeth have no chamfer / lead-in whereas inertia does.

    Bugger! That's a ring gear I'll have to change! Were mk2 Auto starters Pre engaged? Not taken mine off yet

    It hasn't got the solenoid bolted to the inner wing so I guess it must be pre engaged

    My auto had a pre-engaged set-up and it was an un-messed with car so I'm confident it was original.

    I think you need you need a 135 tooth, not a 132. Your flywheel might only take a 132 tooth one due to the size of the mounting flange diameter. I made this mistake and damaged the ring gear on mine over time. Found a flywheel that I could fit a 135 tooth ring gear to and it's been fine since.

    I kept the 110 tooth inertia ring gear and fitted a Wosp pre-engaged comp starter as below, it's been really good.

    Ford BDA / X-Flow / Twin Cam (replacing 9 tooth inertia) (9 tooth / 3 bolt fixing) 'slimline' LMS269-9-3 1.4kW Hitachi PMGR

    Probably other makes of upgraded starters do the same.

    Thanks for the replies guys, really helpful stuff. Just one more thing, will the Sierra release bearing be ok to use with this set up? i will hopefully try to get some pics up later on.

    The pressure plate on the left is the crossflow one and the one on the right is the Sierra 190mm one with the kit. The release bearing came with the kit too. The fingers on the left pressure plate look lower and should give more clearance, but will this plate be ok with the release bearing that came with the kit?

    Hi Guys, Do you know if i can use the Sierra release bearing in the photo or do i need to order another type? Will be swopping the box soon so i want to make sure i fit the correct parts before i bench press the box into the car! Cheers!
