    Hybrid Pre-Crossflow

    Hi Folks !
I'm newbie here, just joined in this forum. I'm also Finnish, so please try to understand my poor english
    I have 105 E (106E ) Anglia, and my plan is build a Hybrid pre-crossflow 1680cc engine . I Have 711M block, Pre-x-flow Cortina GT cylinder head,and intake manifold with 32/36 Weber on it.
I have set of Datsun L24 std flat top pistons, and Datsun L16 connecting rods. I think they will easily suit in 711M block, pistons may need some machining on top, i guess.
Finally, my question is : Valves on GT-head are quite small, where i can find bigger valves to fit in it easily ? Is it possible to use Lotus Cortina valves, they seems to be same lenght .
Any information of porting Pre-x-flow head would be much appreciated

    Re: Hybrid Pre-Crossflow

We have recently finished a similar build. 1700 83.5 mm bore on 711m block with pre x flow head on nice one piece up swept inlet manifold on 45's. Nice 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust for some nice driveable torque.
It made just short of 150 bhp on dyno.

ThrobNozzle Racing are the people to speak to regarding modify the pre x flow head. They build a number of those engines for customers in Historic Racing.

It would be nice if your budget would run to it to fit a pair of 40 Webers instead of the std GT carb. I had a Grass Track Escort in the mid 70's fitted with 1600 botton end, Twin Cam pistons, Twin 40's and a Piper 1FR4 cam. The head was relatively std apart from a skim to raise the compression and a set of Cosworth valve springs. There was very little information if any about head modifying then so we were stuck with what we had.

Thank you for info. There's one issue with my 106E. It's LHD , so double webers doesn't have any room in engine comparment.
one solution would be to install a pedalbox to fit the carburetors into the engine room. the brake master cylinder takes up all the space otherwise. I think I'll use 32/36 dgv Weber at first, and maybe double's later. The hardest part is finding information on changes to the pre-x-flow cylinder head.Luckily i have a gt cylinder head that is flowing better as standard but i dont know what is the maximum power it will allow with this configuration.

Does it need to be pre x-flow ? Ideal for a cross flow engine if lhd no brakes to move etc

Yes, I ordered them for some parts, hi-ratio steering arms to Cortina mk2 struts. And quick shift lever for 2000E gearbox.

    Re: Hybrid Pre-Crossflow

Definitely must. pre x flow is an old school look, it's the whole idea. I know x flow is more efficient but the old type of motor fits my car. style better

    Re: Hybrid Pre-Crossflow

    completely understand.

have a search for a guy called toby kent on the net. He built a really nice pre-x flow.

Heres an extarct from oldskoolfood forum

    "On this day I ran a 13.3 on street Yoko's 048s.

When I got home I thought it sounded a bit rattly. On removing the rocker cover I found it had broken a valve spring and run that time.

    Rough spec.

Pre-crossflow built on an L block. 3D machined head for perfect chamber replication accross the cylinders. RS200 BDT pistons (85.4mm) with the tops machined off to loose the bowls. Stroker Dug Kiddie crank. Arrow Rods. Race steel cam. Thin stem followers! 180 + Bhp (Sanspeeds rollers showed 201bhp but I think that reads a little high)

Latest Rolling Road at Torque of the Devil Showed a more realistic 163hp (Flywheel)

Tran X diff for strength with large shafts.

Recently having broken so many pinto gear boxes I have made every cog in the box as straight cut gears from alloy tool steel. This meant I could choose my ratios. Whilst I was at it I made it a dog box."
