    High oil pressure

    Hello All

Looking for some advice I have just about finished bolting a duratec (s/h 60k accident damaged mondeo) into my mk2 RS2 and all was going well. fired it up no problems other than high oil pressure 90ish cold 40 hot.
Then put her on the rolling road for a set up, again no real problems.

Now though after getting her back home every time i start it up on any thing more than tick over it blows the seal out of the oil filter.(twice) and it has buggerd the pressure gauge that went up to 100psi any sugestions? i'm running a wet sump (retro ford) and a race line filter adapter plate.
Reading various comments on here it seems that its not uncommon is it likely to be a stuck PRV or is it that the oil filter I'm using could be to small, its off a 1600 cvh its the only one that fits between the rail

    regards

Sounds like a stuck PRV, unless you are running the wrong grade of oil.

I'm seeing 90+ PSI when cold, and rock steady 40psi when running 100+ Degrees water temperature.
And thats with 76 Racing 10W60 synthetic oil, and a Halfords HOF207 oil filter

No leaks though. Just dont rev it until its warmed up!

    Thanks for the info.
Do Duratecs run at a high pressure normally then?
would the type of filter make a difference, restricting flow and giving a back pressure as I was running a cheap thing from the local factors
also if it is the PRV, I pressume its on the pump and a sump off job?

    Re: High oil pressure

If its a new engine, then pressures are bound to be higher than a 100,000 miler.
When I rev mine when its hot, the pressure climbs up again, but nothing leaks.

Have you tried removing the rubber ring from the top of the filter, and lying it on the filter mount, to check that you are getting adequate coverage when the filter is installed? Ie could you do with a slightly larger diameter filter so the seal is better?

The quality of filter could affect pressure. Halfords own brand are usually OK though. Never had an issue.

But from what you describe, pressures sound to be in the right ballpark, so just concentrate on getting rid of the leak.

    Thanks Grahamb

As you say could just be a crap seal on the filter I hope so.
I was starting to look forward to playing with it the thought of having to take the engine back out was not a joyful one

    Re: High oil pressure

    update on problem.

I fitted a new filter on today and filled back up with oil then introduced some engine oil flush.
fired up the motor and on tick over it sat at 45psi then went beyond 120 with a little blip.
i then left it to run for half an hour or so checking the pressure periodically the pressure went down to 30 hot and after a few gentle blips the pressure would climb to 80psi and then slightly drop back a couple of psi. I presume that is the bypass opening in the pump as no amount of rpm will lift the pressure past 80psi so I will try it again from cold but fingers crossed that has cleared an blockage.
