Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
I've done 3 now, a friend uses them for a morris minor conversion as full length the gear stick ends up behind the seat.
The cuts you show are how I've done mine before, I didn't strip the gearbox down, just removed the steel plate at the rear of the gearstick housing, removed the gearstick fork .
I then cut the box at your blue lines, then the red lines, cleaned it all up and marked the selector shaft and shortened that.
Slide the gearstick housing back over the selector shaft, hold with clamps and weld.
Refit the selector fork and the steel plug and thats it!
The aluminium needs to be well cleaned as the ones I have done have welded well, but the metal is not top quality.

Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
Thanks for the info this sounds like a viable option as apposed to chopping the shell. Now just got to learn to weld cast aluminum

Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
Andy Gs escorts only do a kit for the mounts, they dont do this tail shaft selector mount shortening.

Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
Hi mates, very helpful thread !! I'm in the process to install a T9 to one of my MK2s, and think I'll proceed this way.
Cheers,

Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
Hi, looking into fitting a type 9 this way, does this not eliminate cutting and rotating the gearbox selector hole??
cheers

Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
if you shorten the selector position by 75mm the box will go in a standard shell with NO cutting. rs2000 bellhousing a must tho.

Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
This is just the sort of thing Im after.
All the surfing the net I have done and never heard of such a thing.

Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
Wow, looks good.
So does that mean a type 9 into Mk2 RS2000 without the need for any mods?
-
Re: Type 9 Cutting ?
type 9 fits rs2000 without mods anyway, well without any cutting, but you do need a couple of reversable mods, a quickshift or the gearlever will hit the handbrake, and a couple of strip sof 1/4 inch thick steel strip so you can move the x member back on the standard rs gearbox lowering blocks
