Is the engine serial number missing ?, the first two letters will give the exact year and month of the build and the whole serial number matches the VIN of the chassis.

no the serial number is there but want to make sure that it was not just put there . The artwork looks original but fior example on Triumph TR's there is a cast number which realtes t othe year of the engine and hence car build. Is there a similary casting number on the X-flow .

Thanks for getting back to me .

No. Although there is a casting number (Tx) on the block, where T1 is an early casting and T20 a later casting.

There are some numbers and letters cast into the block just above the alternator mount on a crossflow - if you can get me them (a photo would be best) I can tell you what date the block was cast.

What is the main block part number? Crossflow? 681 / 691/ 711?

    Thanks,.
    So I gather 8 = 1978, G is 7th month / 7th letter of alfabet, 18 is 18th.

That's right - however, there is no "I" used so if decoding any other blocks J is September, K October, L November and M is December ie 9th letter of alphabet is not the 9th month etc etc.
