Cosworth wiring ( ignition feeds help)

    Morning all,

Just wondering if somebody could please help me with my wiring on my install I have a ybp in a mk1 escort a new auto dynamix engine loom, wasted spark driver installed buy auto dynamix also. I am at present just wiring the engine up but have lost the paperwork that came with the loom.

Everything is plugged in but it's the ignition side I am unsure of I have seven wires which need to be connected.

2 white ( which I am told are from the coil packs)
1 green ( which again I am told is the rev counter)
    1blue ( unsure of this)
1 brown (again unsure of this )
1 thicker (black wire I assume this is ignition again unsure where to put this on the ignition)
1 red thicker wire ( which I think is ecu power?)

I've have tried to upload some pictures but I can't seem to get them to load .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Jamie

Cosworth wiring ( ignition feeds help)

Surely the safest way forward is to email the people who did the loom and ask for another set of instructions, they probably will have them as a pdf

    Thanks for the reply Graham

Yes was going to give them a call in the morning I have a spark but only when I turn the ignition on I get one spark but as I crank the engine over I get nothing and as I turn the ignition off I get one more spark so I am a little lost to say the least.

Once again thank you for your reply.

Having gone through new 'custom' loom problems with my own car, anyone could speculate on wire colours / applications but could be massively wrong and could damage your ECU! The loom manufacturers website says each loom is serial numbered so they should be able to address the queries - safer solution. Its clear it isn't getting power when cranking - key posn. 3 on an Escort Ign. switch so some investigation is required.

    Thanks Katana

I am sure it will be something simple once I've got in touch with them.

Re: Cosworth wiring ( ignition feeds help)

    Hi all

After speaking to James at Autodynamix looks like I wasn't far wrong.

    Red wire was ignition live
    Black was fuel pump
    Blue was temp sensor
    Brown was oil pressure
Two white wires are of the coil packs and need to be isolated. If not using for tacho.
    Green is for tacho.

But I have one question if Anybody can help.
I took the distributor out to clean around it prior to install thinking this now only drove the oil pump because of wasted spark.

I just reinstalled it not thinking of the phase sensor my question is if this is in the wrong place would that be giving me the spark on turning the power on but not cranking ?

Thanks again for any help you guys can give.

    Jamie

the spark when turning power on will just be a characteristic of the system

So if I just check the phase sensor position I should be good to go in theory the Graham?

    Thanks in Advance

If running wasted spark - intimated by two coil drivers / wires and noted above - why do you need a 'phase' sensor / distributor anyway as its not doing anything?

    Thanks for the reply Katana.

I thought if that wasn't lined up correctly that's why I was only getting a spark on turning the power on not on cranking.

As it doesn't spark when cranking only when I turn the power on.

Graham states that that is a carictaristic of the system just u sure why is doesn't when I crank

There's no chip in the ecu !! That's why it won't run
