I have a fibreglass one, I purchased from MST but I think it came from Rally Design originally. First one had faults second was acceptable and was told just to keep the first, so must be cheap to them.
Fits fine, mines satin black and the cross braces show but otherwise it’s ok.

I think you'd be hard pushed to find a fibreglass panel that doesn't show the braces through it.
Pretty much every fibreglass panel I've ever seen has shown the braces through.

Its strange with the braces showing, I used to work with TVR's and the Chimera bonnet is huge with long braces, and you'd never see any. I'd imagine its the glass being too thin or the bonding agent used.

When the inner brace is bonded to the outer skin, it can deform the skin. The only way round this is to wait several weeks with the skin still in the mould to fully cure. Then, bond the brace in (whilst still in the mould). Then allow a few more weeks for the bonding to fully cure, before removing. Making a bonnet in this way would take ages and that's why nobody does. Its just too expensive because the mould is tied up for weeks at a time. I made a one off bonnet this way many years ago, and the frame never showed.

TVR would leave entire bodies in moulds in the yard to cure and only remove from the mould when needed. They also 'fix' surface issues with lots of filler. you'd be shocked how much filler there was in TVRs from new!

I have a GRP bonnet (Mk1 Cortina) from Old Ford Autos, and they are very good. I am sure they do an Escort Mk1 too.
