Atlas axle rear disc conversion cossie brakes help?

[B][I][SIZE=4]Just trying to do a rear disc conversion on an atlas axle, got cosworth 2wd solid rear calipers and 273mm rear discs. Got some brackets on ebay but not sure there right, heres a few pics of the setup

Not sure where to weld the brackets, on the bearing carriers or further back, if anyone can help would be much appreciated with pics or advice.

Heres a pic of a rough setup we where thinking of but im not so sure, going to weld some bars on to take up the space

    Hope someone can help

what are those discs off? you sure they are 273mm? 273mm is cossie rear size, they have much smaller offset than those in the picture. ideally the brackets want to be right next to the caliper, less twisting stress on the bolts. if those are the discs you are going to use i would grind the bracket so that it will fit nearer the axle end.

ask any one who has there brackets welded on the back of the flange and they will tell you that the axle now leaks oil,i would move it closer, then use a spacer block, does any one do a four bolt flange that the caliper bolts to,put the discs on the inside the halfshaft with grp4 wheel stud and nut, hope this helps

The way you have it in the picture you might find that the coilovers and brakes interfere with each other when fitted, have you test fitted everything in situe yet? I have put my callipers on the rear of the axle and I am sure I have seen loads done like that.

the discs i used on my atlas are mk1 fiesta solid discs, they have a deeper top hat and no need for spacers,u do need to turn down the drive shafts though, this is what old fords use, hope it helps

if you used mk3 escort base model 240mm discs (deeper bell than fiesta discs) you would be able to weld the bracket away from the axle end, not quite as far as you have them in the picture but enough to stop the heat potentially warping the bearing flange. or you wcould weld the brackets where you have them, and use spacers to take up the rest of the difference, which would be a lot less than you have at the moment
