    Question Rocker shaft disassembly.

    Morning Chaps.

I am cleaning up my rocker shaft and wanted if possible to strip it completely and ultrasonically clean it all if possible.

Getting the ends off is easy but what about the fixed parts that bolt onto the head? How are they removed? Mines a bit grubby and i cant see roll pin holes or C clips.

Can anyone share some images or guide to stripping them?

Or is it best just to douse the lot in cleaner and leave it at that? I cant put it in the dishwasher...SHMBO will flip.

from distant memory remove the split pins and it all disassembles. Dont do what did and try to twist off the shaft post with a bar through the bolt hole as the shaft is grooved to allow the post bolt to pass the shaft and lock the shaft in place (if that makes sense) they should just twist of with a good grip. The rockers will rotate all the way and just need to be twisted off.

as above, once its removed from the head and the bolts pulled out of the alloy pillars, the only thing holding it together are the split pins in the ends of the shaft

OK. Thats what i kinda thought after looking at exploded drawings. Mine must be just stuck in place. The rockers move freely and smooth but the posts (that you bolt through into the head) are jammed solid. Spray cleaner and a warm up maybe in my future

    Thank you fellas.

Mine were stuck and thats how i remember breaking one. They are alloy ( seem to recollect) so a gentle warm may help. I ended just buying some steel ones in the end.

Saying that they have doubled in price since i bought them

Warming them up is the best method - I always warm them up when ASSEMBLING as it stops any aluminium being ripped off the posts and then going into the shaft itself, which of course is not good for a rebuilt engine!!
So warming up to remove them makes it much easier and stops any damage as you take them off. They don't need much heat to remove.
