Escort twincam steering column shaft length

I have an escort twincam steering rack and as you can see from the pictures the shaft length going to the steering wheel column is different than mk1/mk2 steering rack.

Do you know why the twincams have different steering shaft configuration?

I thought it was to move the joint up miss the starter motor which is on the driver side on a twinc / rs1600/ Mex.

Known as the 'long stem rack' as opposed to the more common short stem.

'68 1100 Deluxe-bog stock soon to be a twincam rep.
