Long time since Ive posted on here sorry guys!

Ive spent the past 3months doing a full resto on my Mk1 Four Door as it needed some TLC before it turned into a major build like "Project Alan Mann"

A bit off topic I know but I wanted to share it and show you all I havent just been sitting on my arse this whole time

The four door before the strip down with the new mexico arches

    Back from the paintbooth

Purchased a new motor for it too. 1620 Crossflow with Mild Street Cam

    The Engine Re-build

Engine Complete, also added an alloy Radiator from a EG civic thats been modded to fit

    All finished at last

Time to enjoy it and take out to as many shows/meets as possible this year

    Back on Topic! *Front Suspension*

I need to get this car on the ground again

So I brought the bilstein inserts, locking nuts, springs in the Uk and I’ve got Capri stub axles, all I need is some Strut tubes. Only ones I could find over here are from palmside which would cost just over 500bucks so I’ve opted to make my own

I went and took a complete suspension leg out of my mates rally car to see how they work and get some sizes.

Ordered my tubes and cut to length, time to get turning

    Machining the Tubes

    Half Finished

Just tested out my thread cutting abilities on a test piece

All appears fine, time to do the real thing next week

Ordered my Wiper Seals and DU Bushes plus the length of tube came to a total of 150bucks

    Front Suspension -Continued-

    Threadcutting the new tubes (M52 x 1.5)

    Test Nut Fits well

Wiper Seal grooves good, ready for the stub axles to be shrunk on

Stub axles on, tacking on my guessets (couldnt resist a few sneeky holes)

    Welding, Welding

Done and ready to get dipped

    Freshly coated

I couldnt buy off the shelf DU bushes for these so I had to machine the OD.
As you can see this was easier said than done
Thank god i brought a few spares

After pulling my hair out and swearing a lot, finally got there and the bushes are home

    Wiper Seal Fitted

    Finished product

    Time for a

Your DIY parts are better quality than some of the branded parts I have bought....

Wish I had the skills and equipment to finish off parts like that.

    Re: Project Alan Mann

All the Feedback has got me super enthused, Thank You!

I am very fortunate that I can use the workshop after hours to manufacture all my parts

    So here's the update

Machined up the top collar nut to fit inside the bearings.

Also made the spacers to sit between the top collar nut and the eccentric top

Got to work on the alloy hubs aswel. Pressing the wheel bearing in

    Pushing the studs in

    All assembled

Ive made spacers to sit where the arrows are pointing as it look like the eccentric top mount and the top cap would rub and hit when the suspension moves if I didnt have these in there.
Not sure if anyone else has seen this? Or if they even really need spacing?

    Re: Project Alan Mann

Had a big one this weekend on "Project Alan Mann"

Ive talked to a few people through racing and they recommended putting vents in the engine bay to get rid of hot air. Ive seen a few examples so I gave it a go myself

Purchased some vents from a local hardware store, gave them a trim and got them sandblasted

I was worried about removing a big section out of the inner wing so Ive drilled some holes instead and the vent will sit on top

    Welding time

Drilled out the crossmember for the adjustable TCA's to fit

    Fitted my front struts

    Time for a cuppa

Now onto fitting the Dummy block and Gearbox

Big Thanks to " xygtho " for the dummy block, Cheers!

The Toyota Celica 5speed actually bolted up without too many issues

Tunnel needed a bit of trimming

All sits up inside now, gotta love auto shells

Job for next week is to make up a gearbox crossmember

CheeRS "Pikey15" as for the pinto It'll be fairly basic to start off, slight head work, mild cam, single side draft etc. The initial plan is to just get it on the road and get some tracktime and then we'll develop it from there.

    Made up the Gearbox Mount

Took the gearbox out and into work to sort out the splines on the driveshaft
after quite a few hours of measuring, cleaning and filing it finally fits.

Gave it a good clean up too.

Did a bit more assembly to trial fit up the swaybar and TCA's with the new suspension

Couldn't resist putting some wheels on and taking some pic's, finally looking like a car again

Cheers again Lads for all the comments

I need some help with my diff...

I brought this been told it was a Hilux LSD, but when I took the diff head out from my knowledge it doesn't look like one and Ive had a few mates check it out and they say the same thing. So before I accuse the guy I brought it off I want to be sure

    Heres the diff head

What is this part I've arrowed, it looks like a shim?

and here I have my mates standard Hilux LSD carrier that has all the clutch plates inside and it looks totally different to mine

Does anyone else has any info or knowledge on these?

Jump onto the web and have a look for some tech drawings of Hilux LSD and carrier units. The arrowed bit almost looks like a friction plate from a clutch pack...

Still not convinced its an LSD so for a final opinion its gone to Steelie Gears to get checked over
I shall let you know the outcome

In the meantime Ive had a crack at fitting the guards properly

Pretty happy how the swage lines have matched, just gunna have to do a bit of work to even out the gaps here

    Re: Project Alan Mann

I managed to get the diff problem solved, hopefully I'll have my replacement hilux LSD soon

Been busy doing a bit of bodywork

First thing to clean up was the petrol cap filler

Next was to fill all the trim holes up

    No more automatic badge

    and no more reverse lights

Also got a fibre glassing kit to try fix up the gaps on the front guards.

    First layer on

Put on another couple of layers and left it by the radiator to dry ready to trim them to fit properly
