    CheeRS Pikey15

The certification went better than I thought although
I have a list of things to fix (32 of them) to be compliant for road use

Good news is I got my motorsport logbook signed off so project Alan Mann is going on the track tomorrow

    Windows and seals in

    Doors on

I shall let you know how we get on at the race track

Looks like lots of fun! Glad you didn't put your hard work into a wall

Will be interested to see what needed doing for your cert.

Oh, and I was using a CAE reduction starter. I had clearance issues and not enough throw, however I was using a Dellow pinto > celica 5 speed bellhousing so either could have been the culprit.

    How long to paint?

    Re: Project Alan Mann

    Cheers Pikey15 , had a blast out there !

Cert went well but still got a list of 32 things to rectify
    They include :
-changing front struts as you aren't allowed to weld the gussets in anymore
-pedal box needs strengthening as it has some flex
-brake pedal has a welded bush on it and is made from 3mm pressed steel , must be one piece and 8mm thick
    -exhaust to exit outside compartment
    -safety stop on hydraulic handbrake
-rods end to be changed to nylon or Kevlar lined items

    List goes on.....
overall its not too bad as the major construction of the car is fine just lots of little bits to meet the LVVTA requirements
the certifier was a top bloke though , hes just doing his job as per the book

MATT75 , those second hand semi slicks mustn't have been to flash as it didn't take much sideways action to pop them off the bead and send us skating across the track on the rim

escortinadriver the plan to paint is around Christmas time if I can save the required $$$
planning to do one more track day , get some paper work and inspections with motorsport NZ and the LVVTA cert guys done and then the big strip down can begin

The rear discs were just touching on the rear calliper's so we've made up some spacers

3mm spacer added and assembled back together

Made a safety stop on the handbrake as per my LVVTA rectification form

and big thanks to Allan for working his magic on the water cutter to create a new brake pedal for me

and thanks to dad for knocking up some bushes that have been pressed into the pedal

Just got to finish strengthening and bracing the pedal box and then I can install it all again

The plans to keep working through the rectification form
and head out on the track again in a few weeks time

Hey, seems your on the best way to get your car road legal.
Saw your thread 2 hours ago and have read through all of it, amazing work and a fantastic car , nice you saved it from all the rust and of course his end.
From time to time i had a big smile on my face when you put the next holes in a piece of your car, wondered that your firewall has no holes in it
but saving weight can decide between victory and defeat, so you are on the best way to victory

    Re: Project Alan Mann

    Some footage from Hampton Downs

Took part in my first hillclimb event organised by the MG Car Club
    at Kemp Road in Waiuku

A few other escorts join the line up.

    Ended up 15th overall

Some Incar footage on the GoPro

    Until this happened

Which caused the exhaust to push its way into the four link bar and bend it

Bit of cracking from the impact

Tow bar took most of the impact and sheared off

New link bar installed , exhaust bent back into shape and now looking to remount the rear suspension coilover points
(my temporary sheet metal brackets to mock it into place)

Been through and replaced my rose joints as part of my certification rectification

Found some new wheels for the race track
13x8's and 13x10's which I'll blast and paint and put some new slicks on shortly

Alan remade me some brake calliper brackets so I could move the callipers more inwards to clear the wheels

    Re: Project Alan Mann

I've had my 2nd Certification inspection and the assessor is now happy for the car to go to paint after checking some more fabrication work and suspension geometry.

Last job was to weld up an extension piece for the exhaust
the longer one for the road and the short dumpy for the track.

Thanks filipvdv Very impressed with it , just masked it out and used sparingly and used thinners on a bit of rag to smooth it down

Looks Absolutely Fantastic. Can not wait to see it around. Did you get down to lead foot festival this weekend? A couple of lovely machines there.
