Half shaft bearing retainer rings
Just replaced the half shaft bearings on a diff that is going into my race car. I've heard of the half shaft's pulling out of the bearings and retainers (how true this is I don't know) Should I place 3 beads of tig around the retainer and shaft locking the two ?

Re: Half shaft bearing retainer rings
I've had a 1/2 shaft pull out of the bearing! I now always weld the collars on in a couple of places using a mig.

Re: Half shaft bearing retainer rings
back in the day when you pressed the collars on you had to make sure the resistance to fit them was enough, eg you would look for the gauge on the press to read a certain figure, 3 tons or so. if not they had to come off and new ones fitted until the gauge read the right figure.
remember, this figure was correct to be safe when fitting wheel bearings to what was a family saloon, not a ragged out track/drifting car with 250hp and a mentalist pedalling it! I always weld the collars on, dont do too much tho, if you warp the collar you are going back a step.
