    Mk2 Duratec Escort

    Its taken me a while to get this thread set up......

    After much saving and searching, finally got myself a Mk2 RS2000 bought in may 2011

    W Reg (1980)

    Car was bought as a rolling shell to the following spec....
    Alloy arched
    15" tubs
    6 linked
    Atlas axle
    Ford Motorsport rear coilovers
    Multipoint welded cage

    and the grand plan is to fit a 2.0 Duratec

    thanks guys. not got any other pictures of the overall cars yet. will get up to the lock up tomorrow with the camera.
    have managed to get a bit done since picking it up....overhauled and refit the front coilovers and tension struts

    thanks guys, will get up to the lock up with the camera tonight and get a few more pictures taken.
    got a bit done since getting the car back.... front coilovers and tension struts have been overhauled and re-fit

    The car is going to be used as a road car initially, then the plan is to enter a few of the local sprints and hill climbs.

    Sourced a 2.0 duratec bare engine with 27k miles on it which should for a good basis for the engine build

    Quick update.....
    Been down to Tony Law Exhausts at Leeds to collect my manifold. pictures to follow.
    After finally getting out a very stubborn crank pulley bolt the crank is out and on its way down to SBD Motorsport for keywaying.
    I have modified the front cover and sent that away to be blasted and powder coated.
    Dry sump and alumimum pulley is order and due for delivery next week

    Overhauled the pedal box this weekend.
    Welded up the backs of the brake and clutch pedals for a bit more rigidity

    it was made to order, they said 2-3 weeks but had it done by the end of the first week

    watched the guys there working for a little while and it really is an art what they do. all hand bend and gas welded. there was some nice cars in there that they were working on too.

    plan to take the car back there to get the rest of the system built

    Recieved the ARP bolts for the bottom end today so should get the engine assembled over the weekend.
    Called in to see Yuk of Yukspeed near York today and dropped of my dash top and bottom for flocking. What a top bloke he is, there cant be much he does not know about old escorts.

    Got the bottom end together and the dry sump fitted today. Hopefully will be in a position to get the engine back to the lock up and get some engine mounts made next weekend

    Good choice of engine. But then I would say that as You've probably seen my car on the SBD website as I have one of his top spec duratecs and I am good freinds with Steve. In fact It was me who machined your crank too :-)

    Thanks Matt, i have been following yor project through its various phases. its been a combination of your car and the unrivaled range of parts available from SBD and his technical knowledge that has steered me down the duratec route.

    I have got a very long shopping list for Steve, top of which is the 54mm tapered throttle body. these should allow me plenty of room for future tuning.
    Great work with my crank, thanks. was nearly tempted to do it myself. had it on the milling machine a couple of times but was never quite happy with how i had it set up.

    i have no doubt that i willl be in touch with some questions! thanks

    By complete coincidence, the front polycarbonate windows that were supplied unfitted with the shell which was brought half way up the country, were made by a guy operating out of a unit 2 doors down from where i am buliding the car! so he is on with the rest of the set.

    apart from that very little progress this month as the other motor has been too tax and insure.

    gearbox tunnel is welded in, just a bit of tidying up to do then i can get busy with the seam sealer
    tank platform is welded in

    and a universal 14 circuit wiring loom is on its way over from america

    Continuing with my cheap month..... been on with a few little jobs. refusing to spend 25.99 on a pair of rollcage gussets i set to and designed my own. got 6 straight plates and for the a pillars and 6 arked plates for the b pillars cut at my laser cutters for the 12! this would give me a few spares to try different swages on.

    was finnaly happy with the design of my swaging tool by mk3

    Finally got some photos of the tunnel





    Tank platform welded in and carbon fibre spare wheel tray trimmed to fit


    Boot catches in place with some 3M carbon fibre trims


    ..........this was a bit of an experiment!happy with how it has panned out so it can stay! was a bit concerned about how ealisy the sliders opened on the front windows so got hold of some m5 spring loaded plungers from a work supplier and made some plates to mount them in....drilled the bottom of the slider at 25mm increments, this allows 10 positions for the windows to be positivly held at
