Stainless Steel braided brake line fittings

Can anyone tell me how tight I should tighten unions on -3 stainless steel brake lines that I am making up? I have seen different opinions that range from hand tight plus nip to fully tighten until it wont go any further.
    Thanks Sean

What are you asking? Are you making up hoses and asking about doing the nut over the braid onto the banjo? Or attaching the flare end onto a nipple / adaptor? Whatever - hand tight is never a torque used with brake / hydraulic fittings!

Making line for axle, compression tee to caliper banjo each side. Do I keep tightening the collar all the way up?

If you are tightening the nut on the olive for the banjo, I tighten them until they stop on the fitting never had a leak or failure. Use soft face vice plates or a proper fitting clamp that goes in the vice etc.

Thanks very much for that, how tight do you do up the bolt that goes through the banjo into the caliper?

I usually do the hose clamp nut almost to the stop (about 1/4 turn back) but check it for alignment to whatever its fitted to - that little bit left is adjustment. If none is required it will be tight enough for use regardless. Banjo bolts - tight as you need to compress the copper washers to form the seal. If its a concave / convex nosed fitting they should just be 'nipped up' to seat.

Before winding the banjo nut also check they do not bottom out in the calliper before reaching a full tightness. I have had to shorten them slightly on some occasions.

With the copper washers you feel them bite usually. Nip it up with a spanner and then just say a 1/4 turn extra but you will feel it go tight. You will also find the banjo wants to turn as you tighten so hold onto it to keep it where you want it.
