New Mk1 & Mk2 shells a genuine reality these days!

I re-read some old threads about possible 'new shells' & with hindsight it was amusing to see all negative opinions again.
Everything from 'this will never happen' to 'Ford will never allow it', 'they will be crushed at the ports', 'the value of our escorts will plummet', 'it'd be too expensive to make work' etc etc.

    Anyway, here we are...

You can buy a brand new Chinese bare Mk2 shell for about £7K.
You can buy all the panels for a Mk2.
You can buy brand new prepared shells in various states of build from 'clubmen' & 'Grp4' up to full 'modern spec', even ready painted.
You can buy a full fibreglass Mk2 escort

Motorsport tools are in the process of making available new build, road registered on modern plates - SVA etc turn-key Mk2 escorts (who thought you'd be able to go & buy a new Mk2 escort road car! with a current registration!)

I took a good look at the 'Scort Solutions' full fibreglass Mk2 Escort when they showed it at Castle Coombe Rally day. I didn't notice it was fibreglass straight away, the engine bay bulk head gave it away. Looked really good, I don't think it can be used in rallying but in other Motorsport probably.

Mk1 'RSR' Fibreglass shells have been available for a while..

The new news is that brand new steel Mk1 shells available early 2020, made from Magnum panels to any spec you want.
All the Mk1 panels too. I think these will be much better than the Chinese Mk2's.

One thing I would like to know is what they do about the Gutter rail on a Mk1. They normally sit on top of the quarter and the front door frame then the roof skin sits on top of them. I've not seen the gutter sections advertised any where, though I know the rest of the shell is out there.

And have they put any sort of price on a full Mk1 shell does anyone know?

New shells will be around £13k + VAT

Which is roughly double the price of the parts alone of Magnum £6.5k

A new mk1 shell, this one with pressed in (not welded-on bubble arches)

The Chinese shells are absolute junk, the only panels that fit them are the same chinese ones, fine to chop up for Grp4 rally shell but with all the parts available the magnum ones are the way to go

I've had a good look at some proper expensive & gleaming rally builds in Ireland from the Chinese shells, bare Chinese shells in primer & paint & also a very nice road car built from a Chinese shell. A proper rally build these days is like a work of art anyway. As per my original post I agree the Magnum stuff is better which suits me because I drive & rally Mk1's.

I'm still amazed it went from 'imagine if you could buy new shells' to now you can buy new Mk1 & Mk2 shells in steel or a full Mk2 shell in fibreglass. You only have to look at this forum & read the very busy old threads about even the possibility of new shells in the future.

At least the discussion has moved on from 'new shells will never happen' & 'Ford will never allow it' etc etc

Wasn’t it magnum panels who supplied car SOS a MK1 front panel with the holes cut into it, and said “this is the one you need, all Mexico’s had the holes”

Ha, gotta love TV car restoration show 'facts'

When Wheeler Dealers did the brown to yellow Mk1 Escort the prices of the spare parts was laughable even at the time!
