    Dyno

Not a power plot but hopefully something that could generate one.

I was wondering if anyone knew what type of dyno this is

All I know is it a water brake dyno and looks very similar to a Froude DPX2. I will have more info next week but am trying to find something about it in the meantime.

Looks good, what sort of torque is it capable of taking?

not sure at the moment. There are quite a few versions that have the same layout. They also have different rpm ranges. Will update as soon as I know more

    Hi Tom
i have got a DPX 2 myself, but at the moment it is partly stripped down, this is the instruction book that come with it, it took quite a bit of time to find the book, i put it safe somewhere and then couldn't find as usual. There is only 16 pages, if you want i could get the wife to scan it and email it to you if it helps.

    Hello neil

Thank you for the information. I would really appreciate a scanned copy of the manual if possible. It is Proving quite difficult to get any info on this dyno. All I have found out since is that it is a 150 bhp version. I think that means 150 bhp running all day at 100% duty cycle s it will brake more for a short period. Whay was the rating on your dyno. How good or bad was it for testing. I
will go see it when I return from holidays.

    Re: Dyno

Thanks you again for your help Neil,

Since last posting I got a chance to see the dyno.

It is a Heenan Froude DPX2 dyno which is rated at 112Kw or 150bhp and 4000 to 7500rpms. Seemingly this is a very conservative number for this dyno and is for 100% duty cycle. Seemingly it can brake much higher power and at higher rpms for short periods. The dyno comes with a lot of additional plumbing. There is also a Bowman FG100 heat exchanger included. I presume that this is used either to cool the water being supplied to the dyno or as an alternative to using a radiator to cool the engine. The following are a few photos of the dyno that I took today

    Bowman FG100 1427-2 heat exchanger

    Dyno Rating

A lot of plumbing plus the heat exchanger

Is there something missing here to hold weights?

Other side of Bowman heat exchanger going into vertical pipe. Is this another heat exchanger?

There are two gears missing on the brake adjustment mechanism but they should be possible to locate.

    Hi Tom
its very unlikely that i will get round to building my dyno as i have retired now from modifying cylinder heads and have just bought a 1988 nova to build into a stage rally car, thats assuming i can get a navigator, so if anyone is interested in navigating that lives around the north lincolnshire or east yorkshire area send me a PM.

    Hello Neill,

I received the manual today. Thanks for posting it to me. I am having a read of it now and it answers most of the questions I have about the use of the dyno. I will be picking it up some time mid August so will start working on it then, time permitting.

    Best Regards

    Hello,

I've seen that you have a copy of the manual of a Heenan and Froude waterbrake dyno. Do you still have it? Can you send it to me?
I'm having some trouble putting an old dyno together. I think there are some missing parts here.

    Thank you.

    Hello

You can download the Manual from the following link.

    https://www.hightail.com/download/OG...QVNVbThYRHNUQw

Hope that you find it helpful. I never did get the dyno. As far as I know it was sold for scrap metal.

We have a Superflow 902 engine dyno in N. Ireland and are willing to allow its use by other engine builders etc. We also have a rolling road for final installation mapping/setup. Will see if I can get a picture up

Show us a few videos of some engines on the dyno, particularly Pinto, Cosworth, Zetec or Duratec and I think all will be forgiven. Plus any advice about tuning the same engines would also be welcome.

    Hello Sir(s)

My father has recently acquired a Heenan and Froude DPX2 Water Dyno and he wants to set it up to dyno his classic race bikes. He is looking for a manual and I was searching the internet for one when I came across this post. Dad is in his seventies, and is still hell bent on classic racing, he lives in Northern Ireland.

Would it be possible to get a scanned copy of your manual? if so, please could you email it to me at doug-wheeler@hotmail.com

Thank you very much in advance if this is possible.

Do you still have the Dyno or manuals. I am working with my museum in Naples Florida www.revsinstitute.org to build a static display and need a DPX 2 or DPX3 for a visual display.

    Hi Tom
yes I still have the dyno and manual, but whether the dyno is complete I don't know as some while ago I sold a lot of cylinder heads and stuff for scrap and I don't know whether the scrap man decided to help himself to a couple of weights of it.

    Re: Dyno

Hi, I just discovered this thread while looking for information on Heenan and Froude dynos. I have a DPX2 that I bought some while ago (project 395...) but never got around to building it up. My ambition was either to attach modern electronics to it for creating engine power curves on a rolling road that I would build or instead to use the rolling road as the basis for getting carburation right across the engine speed/load range using exhaust metering. The vehicles would be classic motorcycles (there seems to be little interest in that community for doing this sort of thing). I’ve been a customer of bike rolling roads in the past and it’s evident that dyno sessions tell you things you’d either never know or take ages to find out.
What I have always needed was documentation for the dyno, as well as contact with anyone who was using these devices. This forum seems the place!
So, I have now joined the forum and this is my first post.
The link to a copy of the documentation at highttail.com has perished.
I noticed that Neil and Tom in this thread have pdf documents for the dyno. Would one of you guys be able to send me a copy of the documentation? I'd be very grateful.
Kind regards to all on this thread,
    Jon

I never actually got the Dyno as I did not have enough space to set it up and also not really enough time to work on it.
