Exhaust manifold , bolts instead of nuts?
I am using 2wd exhaust manifold in a mk1 and it is virtually impossible to get the manifold on when the motor is in the bay as you dont have room to slide it over the studs.
Is there any down sides to replacing the studs with bolts?
Cheers

Luke, I have been warned against using stainless into aluminium in a high heat application. something to do with the stainless not having a natural lubrication and them welding them selves in or balling up the aluminium in the thread.
Secondly the stud takes load from the alloy head during heat cycles, a bolt will transfer it into the alloy and risk pulling it out damaging the head.
I have also been advised by my engine builder to use cosworth studs (pre lubed and quality material) and correct washers and nuts...60 pounds for nuts studs and washers though.

Cheers guys I think im going to try line the manifold up then get the studs in. There just seems to much risk of damage doing it with bolts.
