    Problems with car...out of warranty

I bought a volvo v40 from arnold clark at the end of September...the car then started an intermittant knocking and blowing out blue smoke on start up...handed it in to them and i got it back 5 weeks later....now i cant open the rear door from inside or out ...the 60 warranty is out but they had it 5 weeks of that.....can i ask them to repair it and if they refuse do i have any rights?

warranty in date or not vehicle has to be fit for purpose, if you paid a decent amount for the car ( sorry i dont know if its £1600 or £16000 car ) they should put it right, if not get onto trading standards that usually gets car dealer jumping

It's a PG9 prohibition if you can't get the door open on an HGV. An not sure but possibly an mot failure on a car...

Yes, you will have the same issue soon.

Under warranty or not get it fix properly as it is a safety issue.

Cars booked in next monday and getting a courtesy car ....nothing mentioned about price or warranty.....hopefully they don't try and worm out of covering the costs....the cars defibately not fit for purpose with a rear door that wont open....if anything it could make the car a death trap for kids in the back

Indeed it is - 6.2.3. Doors and door catches. Failure to open / close and latch from inside or out is a MAJOR fail ! But whilst it may be a known fault, its a bit of a stretch to expect a stealer to do work due to a 'maybe' fail, if its working when sold. And, if the second fault is not related to the first and occurs after the warranty expires unfortunately that's tough, although i'd be pushing for a fix as a goodwill gesture!

They actually had the car for 5 weeks of the warranty period so surely i can use that against them
