    Stamp It Out

Have reviewed a number of posts on the forum about VIN stamping but have'nt found anything that makes it clear if it matters how accurate the reproduction of the stamping should be.
Rally car rebuild with many new panels.
Will be welding on the strut brace brackets on top of the strut tops. I have seen many like this built by reputable companies but does the bracket miss the standard stamped number or is it ok to shift it rotationally out of the way which means no longer in the position as the original stamping. Don't really know where the original stamping starts and finishes on the strut plate.

my understanding is that as far as DVLA goes , it doesnt matter how of where really as long as its stamped into shell.

That's what I was hoping. Have you had any experience of building a shell or repairing one. I see you are in Wales and I follow the work of Historic Rallysport and Wales Motorsport Fabrication so wondered what they do even though the shells they start off with are great condition. Suppose I could sk them but never want to ask them questions they might be reluctant to get involved in.

Best contact him direct as I think he's been asked that before an I think he wasn't too keen on the idea, best ask him yourself though.

Col, give him a shout, but if no luck then I pass him going to work, assuming he's not moved house since he did my plates.

Most people fit type 49 top mounts so easy enough to send. If you already have them installed or are not bothering i suspect it is a pain to hold onto the ineer wing and whack it with a hammer etc.

It’s for an escort Harrier which has no reinforcement plates fitted as std but requires front inner wings. Trying to keep std as much as poss. It would be far easier just to fit the top plates and as mentioned easier to get stamped. Any normal escort wouldn’t hesitate but been a Harrier one has to try and keep as factory as poss. Thanks for the input so far though chaps it’s always appreciated.

    Re: Stamp It Out

Seen many mentions of markjabber and would and was going to send my strut plates to him. If you weld on the fixed strut brace brackets then they will cover the stamping. Have seen many shells with the brackets welded to the plates but no sign of the code stamping. This a rally shell and many people have welded these brackets on so must be a lot of people out there with the solution?

Neither of my Escorts have a VIN number stamped on the shell, just the VIN plates on the slam panel
    Never had a problem
