after finish welding the new suspension setup i thought id treat myself to a preview. Im using tarmac length gaz gold coilovers. Think im gonna send back the rears for a mod as its on the bumpstops here. got about 40mm axle to chassis clearance. thats when i realised i needed more clearance to run it this low so after this it was back on the spit to cut and reinforce the chassis rails and raise another section of floor to clear top of diff.(those pics to follow.
gartrac watts towers and de seamed the tank and spare wheel wells too. paid quite a bit for the towers and got a shock when they came flat packed!
Oh and dont you just love the gartrac fag box type assembly drawings.

yes and getting bronzer by the minute!
as well as that earlier repair around the headlight i also needed to replace the lower rear part of wing. made from two pieces and welded down the back edge and hand filed down using fitted door to get the gap right also had to remake the same section of the inner part, real fiddley!
going to play with bigger caster angles so cut a sliver of tape, stuck it on wing,marked it out and cut it giving me abit more tyre clearance,
tacked,welded and ground down.
blending the arches in a bit better. just love doing these intricate parts. time consuming but very satisfiying

Mark v8. Don't do bodywork I fit kitchens, mores the pity as getting it painted is gonna be a good chunk of my budget! Spent a fair bit of time getting all the gaps right and the panels level, just got to find someone who will blend in the arches and keep all the lines sharp at prep stage.

Could I ask you what welder and gas you are using to get welds like that. My old Clarke welder is on it's last legs now and I'm thinking of upgrading. I'm not sure I could do welds like that though, even with a better machine.
its a tewlin high frequency start ac/dc tig inverter and im using Boc pureshield argon gas.
they do one branded under the sealey name too. not cheap at over £2000 but the money its saved me by doing it myself is well worth it.
as for the weld quality well thats just practice. i did lots of it before touching the car and the steady hand just develops the more you do it.
Cant speak for mig as ive never even tried but sure it would be easier in a lot of cases as you have a free hand. I went for it purely for weld penetration. the look of the welds is also a nice bonus

Respect to you, especially, if that is not your trade. That is lovely craftsmanship. I 've got to agree with you about the penetration with TIG. I just wish I had the skill to do it.

Rick, its from custom cages and is their light weight T45 model. it came pre cut and only needed a small amount of work to fit properly.
