Fair play mate you've got some skills there Just a quick question what did you do with the old original fire/parcel shelf frame???
When I grow up I will have a MK1 Escort
I must be all growed up now then and paying for it!
thanks guys.

A few more mods. The retro ford tunnel/Gearstick hole has an extra skirt welded to it for more height and engine to bulkhead clearance. made jacking points where the springhangers used to be, cut section where chassis rails overlap as they were pretty rusty and grafted in a 3mm thick piece then used them to reinforce the lower four link mounts, welded on compression strut mounts. being told tc roll bar or tension struts would be better but ive done them to try all options.
Forget the pile of bricks in the tate gallery or that cut up cow in formaldehyde. This is a real work of art. Love it.
thanks 2slow. makes all those lonely cold nights of graft worthwhile when one hears such great feedback.
That workmanship is second to none, really really outstanding, and you work FAST!! Top job Dave!
Thanks raymond, If i could work that fast id do it for a living mate.
this is the work of a couple of evenings a week and the odd weekend over the last three years. Got a few more pics to take and post but we are almost up to date now. Not got a lot more fabrication to do now before it gets dipped again and primed.
Been through a marriage break up in the midst of this too.
If im honest I probably wouldnt of got this far if that hadn't of happened as it released some equity in my former house to get the ball rolling. I had this car for over three years completley untouched before that.
Just cant wait for the day it rolls out under its own power.
Cheers Dave
Hi, very good work!
Where do get the dipping done and do they prime it after for you?
cheers mate.
the dipping is done at surface processing ltd in birmingham. They dip it first then you do repairs and they dip again it and prime it.
they have a youtube link so you can see it being done.
With the standard of your work Dave, you really should be doing it for a living! Its first class sir.
I understand your posting method now, I'm doing the same on my thread. Everybody thinks you're fast
Great thread, loving the progress, keep it up!
Graham
Fantastic skills there definately envious. Might well have some modification welding requirements on my MGB if you were to offer your services (in the Aylesbury area)
Wow thats one nice escort just how a big wing escort should look.Did you make the tank platform your self too and whats the size of the holes in the front pannel? Exerlent workmanship..
Thanks guys.
Robbie, got my hands full with this at the moment. dont think i will be giving up my kitchen fitting to do this sort of thing if im honest.
All the great comments im getting is an incentive but i dont think i could make enough money as a business venture but, never say never! Ive certainly got a large enough workshop for another car. what sort of mods are involved with the mgb? i live in hemel.
Turbo
cant claim the tank platform as mine im afraid (bought from internet) although it wouldnt of been difficult to make.
The holes are punched with a 3" diameter Q-max tool. The swage tool opens them out to 3 3/8ths(80mm) dia.
Understand this takes up a lot of time! Id just be after some work as you could fit in. The car is for sale, but if it falls through, Im going to bite the bullet.
No rust, but theres a few holes to fill, brackets to be removed and the battery trray taken off. What will take a bit more effort is the rad brackets moving forward & some boxing off of the passenger bulkhead area
Can send more details if its something youd want to spend some time on for cash in hand
Hi Robbie, your PM isnt working so i sent you an email via turbosport
Thanks for that. Q-max where can you buy them from and are they any cheaper than FROSTS? I have a 1" and a half one but want a bigger one too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is about the about the cheapest place Ive found them.
The large ones are still very expensive IMO though...

Cheers guys. On me hols at the moment. Will post some more pics when I get back, although not much more to do now before re-dip,paint and the big fit up.
Come on Dave keep up the good work as we would like some more pics
looks like it will be another great project rolling the streets of Hertfordshire some day soon
what's the engine plans?
Hello simon. will get some more pics up for you mate.
hi Duncan. 20L zetec on hayabusa throttle bodies and megasquirt ecu
nice build, I'm in Hemel too, building a Pinto 100e, which should be out next year, quite a few classic Fords in Hemel now.
hello very nice job on the escort. could you tell me what thickness plate you used on the roll cage. to attach it to the escort floor. also did you buy the roll cage or fab it your self. if you did it yourself. how did you notch the tube. thanks mark
Hi Mark.
The foot plates are made from 3mm mild steel (10swg).
The cage is a t45 lightweight cage from custom cages. http://www.customcages.co.uk/roll-ca...bman-rollcages I did consider making one myself but by the time youve bought all the the equipment and f---ked up loads of tube trying to get the bends right i dont think its worth it. there are machines called tube notchers that look like pillar drills which use hole saws to notch the tubes at any angle. You still have to fettle the custom cage a little to make it fit perfectly but nothing much really.
Cheers all
very nice work going on here.gives me insperation to get back at the spit.
