    Escort mk1 Light Weight Special!!!

Thinking about building a light weight special.

Anyone out there know the weight of base model uk built Escort MK1 1100?
    Jeremy Walton's book "Escort mk 1,2 & 3" gives it as 743kg for a 1968 car. (page 33).

    This seams increadibly light.
I have a 1972 Germam built lhd Escort mk1 1100 and the European registration document gives the weight as 855kg, 112kg more than the UK car!!

The only difference I can see is the German car has a type 48 shell, front anti roll bar, Bosch electrics with pre engaged starter, and koln axle with tramp bars.
Could that mount up to 112kg?

    Any thoughts out there?

Probably about right i've seen weights online between 768 and 800kg's for the mk1. Different axle and tramp bars will add a bit, disc brakes will add some as early cars had drums up front, different seats, seatbelts maybe as early weren't inertia reel. Not sure if 855kg seems too much tho. Bigger wheels/tyres will also add some they were only 12's on '68 cars with skinny tyres.

'68 1100 Deluxe-bog stock soon to be a twincam rep.

drum braked car wouldnt of had a servo, thats another few kgs. i suspect early compression strut suspension was lighter than later TCA/ARB design. IIRC early cars didnt have carpet, just rubber mats
