2.0 pinto plus rocket box/clutch issue

    Hi
I’ve got my mates mk1 mex in the garage for recommissioning after a 7 year layup. It’s always had a dodgy clutch - eating cables regularly and struggling to get gears when hot. Over the years it’s had numerous clutch cables and a new pinto HD clutch. We though we’d found the problem recently - wrong bellhousing meant that the cable was at an angle where it connected to release arm so we fitted a new rs2000 alloy bel housing clutch cable, release arm, release bearing. Sadly the same old problem persists. It will go into gear when cold but as soon as it’s warm you can’t get gears. The pedal feel is wrong - feels too springy and clearly insufficient actuation of the release arm.

it has a bias pedal box fitted.

I’ve even checked for endfloat on the engine - none.
    any thoughts - wrong flywheel?
    cheers rich

Don't know what cable you have / have used but the correct ones for Escorts are too close to the exhaust and melt giving a sticky / heavy clutch. Try a Cortina one - they are longer so allow a wider radius turn and locate away from the exhaust.

but have tried that. The outer is now also sheathed in heat insulation wrap and routed away from the tubular manifold.

I made up a heat shield to go between the manifold and cable, I also wrapped the manifold in heat tape. It cured my problem instantly.
Mine would previously melt the cable pretty much as soon as it warmed up.
The other alternative is convert it to hydraulic.
