    4age with pinto dizzy?

I have a 4age that i will be running on bike carbs so wont be using the ecu. I believe the original dizzy was just a trigger for the ecu so wont work on its own. I have heard you can use a pinto dizzy if you use the 4age drive gear on it. Has anyone tried it or got any more info?

Yeah you can use a pinto dizzy, the one I had was a hybrid between the two, 4age distributor body machined down so that all you had left was the mounting face that bolts to the head and the part that goes in the head with oil seal, with a pinto body machined to fit onto that, the pinto distributor shaft needs machining down to suit and redrilled for the 4age drive gear,
    hope that makes sense?
    cheers

The original dizzy has twin inductive sensors, I am happy to take pictures for anyone who wants to see the internals.

I also would like to see how someone adapted it as above, sounds like a sneaky bit of engineering which I always like

take a pic of the sensor and trigger - also how many wires does the sensor have - they will be cheap way I am sure.

So it looks like there is a few options then. Either use a pinto dizzy with a 4age drive gear or use a 4age dizzy with pinto internals?

The hyperpak sounds good as well. is there a supplier in the UK?

    Re: 4age with pinto dizzy?

I have emailed the supplier in NZ and he got right back to me with a price of 164 = 7 delivery. All sounds good but im a little bit dubious about ordering from the other side of the world. Has anyone bought one already?

I send stuff from Thailand all over the world and very rarely have any problems, so don't let it put you off.

But the price is a bit steep!

try finding a Toyota 4k dizzy and swapping the internals over, apparently easy to do...

For my project, Ive had to get parts from all over mainly the us, canada etc. If the supplier uses paypal then take advantage of it. If there any problems (items dont turn up, broken or faulty) then you can claim your money back through their dispute mechanism.

Alternatively use a credit card or visa debit card. A credit card company gives you protection on any purchases over 100 called section 75 and all uk banks who supply visa debit cards are signed up to Visa debit chargeback scheme. Provided you make a claim within 120 days of the purchase then you will get your money back.

For example the supplier of my 20v 4age (Canada) said it would be complete setup including wiring loom and all the sensors. When it came distrubutor broken, sensors missing and the wiring loom cut. After many emails and getting dicked about I put a claim in to my bank and got a full refund within 2 weeks. HTH

It is quite dear but sometimes its better to pay a little extra for simplicity. If i did go down the modified dizzy route is the 4k an easier option than the pinto?I have recently had my paypal account hacked and 4 payments taken over a few days, totalling $180. They were all refunded by paypal as it appeared to have been a breach of their security but im sure you can understand my concern.

The hyperpack does work but would you not be liable for import duties and vat on top?

Yes we have had a couple now and used one on Project Potter in Retro Ford Magazine and it works really well giving a nice smooth curve, but one I bought for myself turned into a bit of a mare.

I ordered one and it never turned up, he never replied to any of my e-mails and it wasnt until I lodged a PayPal dispute did he suddenly wake up and send me a unit.

We'd tried to become his UK Distributor but he was just too hard to do business with.

One of our customers also had a dead one and he didnt really want to know, so my advice would be.... Let the buyer beware and make sure you buy it and fit it. Dont leave it lying around for months, because once you are out of the PayPal dispute time limit you're screwed.

We've now got a dizzy in development which will just bolt straight in and should be available as a traditional points dizzy for those who like it cheap cheap cheap and an electronic version as well.

Expecting a test unit available in the next three weeks.

We've also got a 'box of sparks' in the pipeline too that works in a very similar way to the Hyperpak, using the two triggers within the original dizzy but thats a couple of months away because no ones ECU currently works with the configuration of the Toyota Dizzy, preferring to work on more traditional 36-1 type triggers.

Another customer of ours has just used a trigger wheel and crank position sensor with a Megajolt to run his bike carb'd Anglia Estate with very good results.

Cheers Neil that sort of poor service is what i was worried about. I will be very interested in your new dizzy or box of sparks when they are ready. My starlet will hopefully be ready in a couple of months if you fancy a guinea pig!

    Re: 4age with pinto dizzy?

Why not throw the dizzy in the bin.
Use a Megajolt system with Ford EDIS coils and crank sensor fully programable ignition and cheap.
You can pick up the Ford EDIS bits from a breakers for 20 and Megajolt for around 150 if you shop around.
Much better than a worn out dizzy or cobbled together one Ive seen adapted dizzys break and then jam and snap the camshaft (on a 4AGE) !!
