Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

Hi bud the alternator I got seems to be doing its job now I can't remember the part number bud there's a thread in the duratec section about it.
But the new one fits my Cosworth mounts perfectly.

Trig....if you are fixed up thats cool.......just had a spare you could have had.....(but don't know if a stock Duratec would work).....all the best.

Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

Managed to grab a couple of hours in the garage, and built the gear box cross member, and the gear box mount....I will bolt this in tomorrow. The engine mounts I had were too small, but Dave up in Retro Ford came up with some 'tall' ones that will work a treat,he also sent me a nice stainless bung for my exhaust sensor. He suggested stainless cups for the mounts that look cool, but not sure which way up I'll mount them.Hope to get some time to do some more work this week, and hope the exhaust can be tacked up.

Thanks for that bud but the standard ones aint any good to me as I have mine on cosworth mounts low on the inlet side...
plus I burnt it out friday evening and I needed it sorted as me and the car was being picked up sunday lunch time to go to london ready for mapping session monday...

was the wife's Birthday saturday so I told her to have a lay in (sneaky) got up early got kids dress went out and found a new alternator and got home before she woke up lol...

Then she was off on sunday early to go to hourse show so had a early night so popped out late saturday evening and got it fitted tested sunday morning and packed a few spares ready for london... Few that was a rush....

O and the best bit...................... It made 260.5HP 186.2bft

Was London the nearest place to get it mapped?and how long did it take?.....got all this to look forward to........( oh by the way.....my foot/lb figure is 300 ...out of 283cu ins. (4700 cc's)...she pulls like a train, and can grab rubber in all three gears)...

Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

I took it to track n road as they were recommended by the engine builder was a long drive home bud but it pulls like a train now. They said the map was way off I was there for 6half hours.

Very long hot and noisy day my ears were still ringing at 3am the next day.

what worth going all that way? yes and no...

Think I could have got it done somewhere closer and possibly cheaper but they were recommended as being the best and Im well happy with the result

Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

Trig......as long as you are happy with the results, thats all that really matters.

Got a few hours this afternoon, and mounted the gear box cross member. This also doubles up as a support for the floor.....so made front support to mount the fire wall and the front of the toe board......The motor needs to come forward a few inches, and the motor is in......

Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

Trig.....I know that seems nuts, but it just shifted when I took the gear box out to fit the crossmember......its out by the hang over on the gear box bracket....(I think you can see in the photo)......you wouldn't believe the times I have shifted motors in most of my projects....but sometimes you have not got all the right bits, and need to make adjustments..having a separate chassis makes this a breeze...Not so easy in the type of cars you build....

Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

.....got a lot done today...Rose joints and stainless tube, and steering arm turned up,so the steering has been finished.....moved motor back into correct position.....worked on the hood, and only need some more button heads to bolt it together....the hood has been 'finish' fitted on one side,so with a bit of luck can finish that off tomorrow......

Trig.....this is a nice part.....I cannot thank anguz enough for taking the time and effort to help me out with this.It was a 'life saver part.'..and helped me neatly package the motor without having to cut into the hood side.ONE COOL GUY.

Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

Starting to slow down at the moment,as getting ready to go to the States on vacation (and parts trip....but only one show, one race and one shop this time....THIS IS HER HOLIDAY).Should make it to Prescott for the Retro Rides gig......before I go.Had a few hours spare and thought I could tick off one small project.A while back on this build, I mentioned the dip stick tube for my wet sump pan......this was not a great looking part,so I thought it could be improved. Some fittings and some Aeroquipe hose and I think it now looks OK....(these parts did not cost a 1/4 of the original part)...result....pics show stock Ford unit....modified part, and my rendition.(can't believe I took photos of a dip stick).......a little black paint, and maybe an aluminium pull and its done.

.....if you've come this far with me,you'll know that space has been a problem....I wanted to finish off the oiling system, and if I thought the oil filter plate and fittings were a problem, mounting the remote filter and housing were turning out to be a nightmare.Every remote I considered was way too big, even when the smallest filter was used.I finally solved the problem when I got this vintage 'tattle tale' filter from the States. It is 6'' x 6'' by 2'' wide, has a 60 micron filter screen, and finer screens are still available. The stripped down unit looks to be in really good condition, and only needs the paint to be stripped off,and unit blasted and polished. The unit can be mounted on the top of the frame rail right by the filter plate.....( frame rail is 2'' wide)........result....

Re: Duratec powered vintage Sprint car

Love this Project nice to see something different.

A few comments and in no way negative, I'd be very cautious using -6 for the oil filter supply i think your going to run into trouble with oil flow. Ive had a few oil related issues with my Duratec at high RPM they like to move a lot of oil.

Not sure were in wales you are but when you get to a point your ready to map the car i used a guy called Craig Stephens HTPerformance in the valleys nice guy really thorough and knows what hes doing doesn't go chasing HP he makes sure its tuned to run 100%.
