has anyone ever seen\doing a conversion? ive seen big power come out of these lil cars, anyone see why it cant be done?ive done a little groundwork, and there good for 300bhp all day, and unlike some jap stuff, they run the right way....

I'm sure I seen one on here not a turbo one tho I think it was in a mk1 fiesta orange one I've been in a 300 bhp mr2 turbo and it ent slow just goes all over the road go for it

is this the name for them? i was trying to research them, and came across a few 'beams' basicallly, a good mates trashed his mr2, with a fully rebuilt motor, and uprated turbo, and i reyt fancy the challenge.....

mate, its winter soon, the rustcort is in primer and wont be ling till done, so im thinkin of wedging it in the eestate??the new project wont get started till after xmas...

The BEAMS is NA not turbo, but has around 200bhp from a 2.0 and has VVTi on both cams...
People have been sticking ITBs on them and an ECU and have been seeing good results.
Fit the 3sgte engine gringo, it’ll make a cracking car. Do you have any idea if any gearbox bolts straight on? If the bellhousing is the same stud pattern as a 4age you’re laughing.
The 4age box wouldnt take the power.
The 3s comes in RWD format in the Lexus (cant remember model name) with a 6 speed box.
I will be fitting one in an escort soon i hope...
im going up to look at the car on saturday,and hopefully agree on a price, the engines as good as mine,
its jus if i'll have to buy the whole car, nothing else worries me about the conversion, except the gearbox, if thats the case with the lexus, thats awesome, m11rf, if you could find me out a model name/year of the lexus id massively appreciate it!
Toyota Altezza and the Lexus IS200 have this engine
None turbo, but i would imagine that the box will be the same fitment...

I take it that beams thing is the 4 cylinder 210 brake engine in the import is200? Why the hell did they bother with a 6cyl engine with 50 brake less?!?
Anyway. This looks like a great plan to me. If there's a box that fits (6 speed as well) then your on to a winner mate. You can put one in mine mate when you've ironed out the problems
Probably easier than a zetec.... you'll have a queue of escorts outside wanting toyota engines and lexus boxes!

well.... the gearboxes are between 50 abd 100 quid on the bay, and a re-con one is only £255!!!! need to go look at this mr2 asap!!!!! m11rf, u sure there same stud pattern?
Not 100% sure. But The code for the BEAMS engine is also 3s, so i would have thought that the stud pattern would be the same?
Boxes seem very cheap!

be carefull m8, it was only a few mr2`s that came with a beams engine, altho both the mr2 and the altezza run 3sge engines, they are very different. mr2 is mid mount transverse and the altezza is a different head and comes rwd.
the altezza beams gearbox will bolt straight on to both the 3sge engines.
the is200 gearbox does not bolt straight on altho it looks very similar plus the starter is on the other side.
i have both the box`s cos eventually i will be putting a beams in my anglia saloon......if you manage to get an altezza 6 speed for under £300 you got urself a bargain, cheers davy
the mate who im buying the motor\car off, says when he had the engine rebuilt, all the parts were for the 3sgte engine?! does this shed any light? i kinda liked the idea of a cheap gearbox?
hi m8, 3sge is na, 3sgte is turbo. beams as in first picture has a black has a black cover with BEAMS on it(a complete beams engine will set u back at least a grand) 2nd pic is of a 3sgte

right im learning, so why doesnt the gearbox bolt up? is it just the starter? if the bellhousing patterns the same, i can work with it... i have a freindly ally welder so.... thanks for your time to reply davy...

altezza box will bolt up fine, its the lexus box that wont but i think a bit of elongating and alloy welding and it would fit.
i have an early 3sgte engine that i had fitted but didnt like how high the plenum sat

I know the BEAMS engine is quite a tall engine... Are you dry sumping it, or have you managed to get it in with the standard sump?
cheers m8, i`m using the standard sump but it is a bit tight to the steering rack.
i`m thinking of getting a crossmember bent up for more room(pipe style)

Just about to go down this route as well. 3sge Blacktop Beans engine and use the J160 gearbox, also putting ITB from a 20v Levin.
Have any one of you completed your project ? Need some advice on Sump,Headered and ECU
Agreed the engine is quite tall engine. Does any one have pictures of the Sump? ( I think I will have to modify it)
