    Historic vehicle question

My car is registered as a historic vehicle ..... on the dvla vehicle check it says it's currently taxed but no mot details are held.... this confuses me. Does it mean I need to do something else regarding the mot or do in simply ignore that part......just wondering what would happen if the police were behind me and ran me through thier computer

if it has no mot it will come up as not having one, exempt or not, police should be well aware that it may not need an mot

Both the tax and mot are green ..... normally if tax is out or mot out they turn red.....I just thought it would say exempt or something but like you say the police would surely know.... im taking it out on the road next weekend for the first time in 10 years....its a bit multi coloured and ratty looking but hopefully it runs ok

the thing is mot exemption on age isnt an automatic right, if you car has had considerable modifications then it still requires an MOT, but its impossible for the website to know that, so it can only show if your car has an mot or not, not whether its exempt

And the duty is on the driver / owner to ensure the car is 'roadworthy' ie. MOT compliant even if it isn't tested.

i still think the whole mot exemption thing is madness, and thats got nothing to do with owning an MOT station.

we have a lot of customers with cars old enough to be MOT exempt, 99% of them still have one done, and at least 30% of those cars still fail the test, the scary thing is its usually brakes they fail on!
