How do I identify my diff and axle

Thinking about ordering me an LSD after my offer post but how do I identify my diff and axle after looking I've noticed you take the diff out the rear of the axle so this isn't what I normally see so any ideas what the axle is.

a picture and some info on the car might help!

assuming its an escort still fitted with its origonal axle if the diff comes out the rear its most likely a koln axle, although if its been imported from somewhere else it may have something else.

if it has had the axle swapped it could be anything but most likely an atlas

Thank you for your reply it is a mk2 escort and after having a nose on flee bay it does look like an atlas axle now the question is I have both an atlas and as I'd call it a normal axle diff out with the prop which one is the better one to use bearing in mind I want to run a LSD cheers

if its a proper atlas you want to keep it, lsds are easy to find. if its a koln best to ditch it, no lsds for them, if you have an english axle spare and its in good nick it will do you proud with an lsd in it.

Yep, that´s german "Köln" axle or as they call it also as "small Atlas" (NOT Baby-Atlas aka narrow Atlas).
